How do I apply a layer of diamond?

In my chemistry text book which says there is a way of applying a layer of ultra-hard diamond any surface. He says all you need do is get some hydrogen (H2) and methane (CH4) and mix together, immersion in what you want to cover in the mix, then use the microwave as an energy source, and the result is a thin diamond layer. Any help, advice or ideas? I put the diamond layer on my resume hockey stick, I've been going through about 3 a week. Any idea where to get gas?

I have not heard about making use of diamond coatings methane and hydrogen. applying a layer of diamond to all sorts of everyday objects is certainly a good idea. The reason we can not go out and buy diamond coated with hockey sticks or blades or knives or other items is cost. Not because the raw materials are particularly high, the process for doing so is difficult. Techniques for application diamond coatings generally involve very high pressures or very high temperatures around 1000 º C (or both). That is hot enough to make your club hockey spontaneous combustion. It would not surprise me to see these coatings appear on everyday items for the next 15-20 years as the technology becomes cheaper.
